Well, on the bright side it's pretty easy to remove.
Drain oil & disconnect oil lines
Unbolt axles, clutch cable, and shifter
Disconnect electrical and fuel lines.
Set car on dolly, remove 4 bolts (yes, 4 bolts hold the drivetrain to the car.)
Lift car off engine.

Unbolt axels? Did the gearbox come out as well?

What year 911?

In some cases, it's more work to separate them and support the transmission to remove the engine.

Fair enough, wasn't sure. I've done beetle engine removal, (I know it's not the same but it's the closest to a Porsche it gets!) but it was just the motor not the gearbox as well. It was the easiest engine removal ever.

Why is the motor out anyway? Clutch? * I wish I had a 911 to work on/drive the shit out of.

Yeah, it's (supposedly) easier to drop the whole deal as a unit. The axles bolt to output flanges on the trans, you don't have to drain it or anything. That's pretty cool.

Yes clutch. If you would have told me three years ago I'd have a 911, let alone be pulling the motor out of, I'd say BS.

I think that's one of my favorite parts about the Vanagon.
Look familiar?

Familiar? Looks interchangeable.
